Aside from being a renowned comedian and television host, Jay Leno is also famous for his jaw-dropping car collection. He has shown some distinctive taste when it comes to the road machines he includes in his garage. His collection is a combination of motorcars and motorcycles that have a total value of about $50M!
Leno's extensive knowledge and experience when it comes to modern and classic vehicles helped him get his own car show, Jay Leno’s Garage or JLG, which first aired in late 2015. Throughout the series' run, Leno has featured a number of unique rides from his garage. But if you missed it, keep reading to see some of them.
McLaren P1 | $1.4 Million
Jay Leno became the first individual in the USA to privately own a McLaren P1 hypercar. Painted volcano yellow, the car cost him at least $1.4M. This hybrid drive's technology includes a maximum speed electronically limited to 217 mph. Also included is a variety of technology-driven wonders.
These wonders were taken from the Formula One program that this champion company is known for. Leno took part in a ceremony staged at the McLaren showroom in Beverly Hills to deliver the vehicle to him. It involved a photo session wherein Jay had two of his fans over to the dealers to pose with him in his latest acquisition.
1937 Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic | $38 Million
The 1937 Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic was derived from an initial 1935 model made from magnesium. French car designer Jean Bugatti named the car "Atlantic" in honor of his pal who died in the Atlantic Ocean attempting to cross its waters. Bugatti made only four of these cars.
Commonly thought to be among the most beautiful cars ever, their bodies are made from aluminum with external riveting. The cars get their power from a supercharged inline-8 engine that pushes to 170 hp, reaching top speeds of above 120 mph. Using his vast wealth, Jay Leno became of one of the few people to ever own one.
1969 Lamborghini Miura P400S | $3.5 Million
A number of people believe that the era of the supercars began with the Lamborghini Miura, and car-lover Jay Leno owns a couple of them—the '69 Miura P400S seen in the picture above and a '67 Miura. The former displays more luxury features like the S power windows.
From '68 to '71, only 140 P400S vehicles were created. Its V12 engine made it super-fast, beautiful, and an excellent model for the supercars that were built after until the Lamborghini Countach came along. It was considered the fastest production road car when it was released.
2017 Ford GT | $505.8K
Ford made only 500 GT cars, and Jay Leno was number one on the list of people who received one. Although he had to apply to get his hands on the car, he easily got approved. The options that Jay selected for his GT cost $55K.
He also paid $3K in taxes and almost $4K for the destination costs, putting the total price of his vehicle at around $505,8K. He then displayed his latest toy on his YouTube channel and promised fans that they'd have the opportunity to see the new orange striped black car very soon.
1966 Oldsmobile Toronado | $150K
The story of this '66 model Oldsmobile Toronado was told on Jay Leno’s Garage. David North was the designer of this epic vehicle that he endowed with plenty of character to become a strong competitor with Buick and other top brands in the car industry.
The typical Oldsmobile was given a totally new style that made it gradually become wider at one end so that it could stand out. This look became the standard for Oldsmobile as well as a number of other automobile manufacturers. Jay's car collection is pretty costly, but with his net worth of $400M, he definitely can afford it.
1906 Stanley Steamer | $185K
One of the unusual nuggets in Jay Leno's fleet of automobiles is this 1906 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer, which is Jay's most favored car. The vehicle was built from wood, which became a problem for Leno when it caught on fire while he was driving it.
After he got the vehicle, Leno and his mechanics immediately got down to fixing it up. They got a larger burner and upgraded the boiler to a 30-inch one. They also installed a couple of electric pumps to keep the pressure steady and gave it hydraulic brakes via XK120 Jag drums.
1986 Lamborghini Countach | $300K
Jay has had this 1986 Lamborghini Countach now for more than 25 years. Since it's the final model that the manufacturers put a carburetor in, this is the design of the car that he loves the most. The vehicle actually uses a car key, has a transmission with 5 speeds, and is equipped with a 5.2 liter Quattro V12 engine.
It has 1,600 lbs of torque and produces 990 hp with a top speed of 170 to 175 mph. Leno has used the Lambo for daily driving but says that the car gets very heavy once he gets to 100 mph. Bearing in mind that it weighs 4,000 lbs, this seems logical.
1994 McLaren F1 | $12 Million
There are some killer rides in Jay's garage, but nothing like the McLaren F1. The car has three seats, with the driver positioned in the front and center, and passengers having a 360-degree field of vision. This car is furnished with an engine that's gold-lined to give protection from high temperatures.
And packing a punch of 627 hp, from the 12 cylinders in its engine, the F1 accelerates from stationary to 60 mph in 3,2 seconds, boasting a maximum speed of 240 mph. At only 2,400 lbs, the car is very lightweight; and you can totally enjoy the thrill of driving with no power braking or power steering.
1937 Fiat Topolino | $22K
Jay bought this vehicle after the death of the car's previous owner. Since that past owner kept it in the living room, the vehicle was in a remarkable condition when Jay took possession of it. For someone who spends millions on cars, this is just cheap auto for Leno.
According to Leno's story on JLG, this Topolino is a fashionable and elegant car from Italy with a maximum speed of 50 mph and a 13.5 hp. His car is totally authentic, not restored, and will only run 50 miles per gallon. The motor is so compact in this mini car that it's actually smaller than the generator.
1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Coupe | $2 Million
One more fantastic car in Jay Leno's garage is the iconic Mercedes 300SL. First made in 1954, Jay's car was found sitting in a vessel on the desert and had no engine or transmission. Leno, who enjoys fixing up old cars, was happy to come across it. And though he fixed up the sports car, it wasn't fully restored.
The vehicle has a 300 Series 3-liter engine from Mercedes Benz that generates 220 hp and weighs 2,800 lbs. This model started the trend for cars using a direct fuel injection system, and only its steering wheel is made from plastic.
2006 EcoJet | Price Undetermined
This amazing looking car was actually built by Jay's garage. The 2006 EcoJet is not like any of the others among Jay's possessions. Carbon fiber was used to construct the entire body, while the chassis was made from aluminum. The final result was a lightweight car that weighs approximately 2,400 lbs!
The vehicle can be fueled by any material that it can break down. However, Jay runs it on a soybean-based fuel known as biodiesel to make it more environment-friendly. Its paint is also safe for the environment. The EcoJet has a C6 Corvette as its base and uses an automatic transmission.
1955 Buick Roadmaster | $29.5K
Buicks are so special to Jay that they occupy a whole reserved area of his garage. He bought this typical '55 Buick in '72 and hasn't upgraded, modified, or restored it yet. The car boasts a 330-hp V8 engine and its weight is a crazy 5,000 pounds!
During the 1970s, Jay drove around in this car a lot. It was what he drove when he first went out with Mavis, his spouse, and it possibly had a lot to do with the favorable results of that date. We don't know how big his paychecks were back then, but it could clearly accommodate the purchase of this lovely car.
Blastolene Special | $350K
Brothers Randy Grubb Blastolene and Mike Leads Blastolene created the tank car. They never meant for it to be driven on the road but just to be displayed. However, Jay Leno made it his mission to make it legal to drive it on the road, and he was successful.
So now, the 10,000-pound vehicle that's 20 feet in length can run along with other regular cars. We wonder how much money he had to take from his checking accounts to do that. But you know what, Jay? You're the man!
Audi R8 Spyder | $166.2K
There's no denying that this Audi R8 Spyder is a really nice machine! With its sleek design and classy interior, it's the perfect vehicle for those who like to surround themselves with the finer things in life while having a great driving experience. Those who love racing are aware that the R8 is among the world's speediest automobiles.
Of course, Jay didn't deprive himself with the amenities of this luxury car that has a stated value of $166.2K. He happily plunked down the cash needed to make it a part of his fleet and has been occasionally taking it out for a spin.
1963 Chrysler Turbine | $415K
At the time the manufacturers made this car, they aimed to incorporate a turbine engine fueled by gas into a motor car; hence the '63 Chrysler Turbine. Sadly, no one ever had the opportunity to purchase even one of the 55 cars that they built because all but 9 were dismantled.
The small number that remained either became a part of exhibits or were purchased by very rich people like Jay. After paying about $415K for it, he became one of only three owners of this model. How would insurance be determined for this car, though?
1991 LCC Rocket | $110K
When it was made in 1991, the LCC Rocket was considered to be the first type of its kind. It was basically a very light sports car that could legally be driven on the road. It opened the doors for automobiles like the Ariel Atom. Gordon Murray, who made the famous McLaren F1, also designed the LCC.
Jay's Rocket might be the only model of this car in the US, so it's truly a rare car. Colored a bright red, the car is equipped with a 1,000cc Yamaha motorbike five-valve genesis engine, which produces 145 bhp.
2015 Ford Mustang Shelby GTR 350 | $120K
Being among the US' most well-known muscle cars, not adding the Mustang to your car collection would be unthinkable. Jay has a number of Mustangs, but we're highlighting the 2015 GTR. The car is among the 37 that were built in 2015, commemorating 50 years since the first model was built in '65.
Leno was among the first people to buy the vehicle. The car was designed using the same hues as his traditional Shelby and is equipped with a natural air-intake V8 5.2-liter engine that has 581 Nm of torque and can generate 517 bhp.
1962 Maserati 3500 GTI | $680K
Here is one more classy car that was made in the 1960s—the Maserati 3500 GTI. It was made during the same period as the DB5 and was styled according to Britain's design for motor vehicles. Jay discovered the car in 2011 in a lock-up at a storage facility, which had been its home since '81.
The car underwent a restoration process for two years that included extensive mechanical reconstruction. When the restoration was done in 2013, the car looked more glorious than ever. A straight-six cylinder engine with 12 valves was fitted to it, and it now produces 237 bhp. The 3500 GTI reflects a real 1960s vehicle.
2010 Jaguar CX75 | $1.3 Million
On Jaguar's web page, they positioned the C-X75 as a statement about the brand. Unfortunately, it became nothing more than just that because of a slim chance of profits and restrictions. The manufacturers made just two of these supercars before chucking their plans for production.
This really nice KERS hybrid is like a private jet for the road. It goes from 0 to 100 mph in under 6 seconds and has the ability to drive roughly 30 miles 100% on electricity. We know that Jay owns one of these sweet vehicles.
1975 426 Hemi Plymouth Duster | $11.8K
The story about Paul Annunziata and this '75 426 Hemi Plymouth Duster that he custom-built was revealed in JLG. His mission was to create a professional stock custom car that could be driven as a streetcar. A scratch-off ticket earned him $10K to partly pay for the transformation.
It took five years before the work was done. But his hard work paid off as he has successfully created an award-winning 1,000-hp supercharged duster. Unfortunately, Annunziata developed lung cancer. So to ensure the safety of his precious car and that it wouldn't just be resold to the wrong hands, he gave it to Leno.
