Red Carpet events are something that the people and the tabloids usually go crazy about. They can get a glimpse of their favorite celebrities' expensive dresses and posh tuxedos, and everyone loves gossiping about what happens. However, many a time, we have seen some hilarious, or awkward, accidents take place in illustrious events. We won't hide it - several A-listers have tumbled and fallen flat on their faces (or at least on all fours!) during some of the most glamorous events. Others get photobombed by the weirdest stuff you can imagine, and last but not the least, everyone loves a good prank, and this list is full of them! Let's get started!
Oops! Photobombing Kimye!
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian never saw that coming! The power couple walked down TIME 100 Gala's red carpet when hilarious comedian Amy Schumer wanted to get her share of fame and pretended to fall down in front of them. Schumer is known to be a prankster, but "Kimye" was actually a bit stunned. In any case, Kim wouldn't let Schumer steal the spotlight from her designer dress, so she and Kanye acted like they didn't even see her and kept walking.
Travolta, You Lucky Man!
During the 2015 Academy Award Ceremony, numerous professional photographers tried to capture Scarlet Johansson's beauty, but it was then that something unexpected happened. A wild John Travolta appeared! The legendary actor grabbed her waist and gave her a surprising kiss on the cheek. Many then regarded him to be a creep, but the gorgeous actress later defended him, stating that it was very sweet, and a "welcome" act. However, not noticing her look during the act is kinda hard!
Let's Hope It Wasn't Breathing!
In 2001, everybody expected Björk to appear at the Academy Awards and stun everybody. Well, she certainly did, but not in the way they expected her to. The iconic singer appeared in a dress resembling a swan, designed by Macedonian artist Marjan Pejoski. Instead of wearing a diamond necklace, she carried six ostrich eggs with her, dropping them on the ground, pretending to be laying eggs. The dress went down in history as one of the worst, but in 2015, it was featured in MoMA. Beautiful or not, everybody now recognizes it.
Making A Dictator's Dream Come True
Ryan Seacrest was totally not prepared for this! During the 2012 Oscars, famous funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen appeared at the red carpet dressed up as General Aladeen, his character from The Dictator. Seacrest approached him to interview him, but Cohen yelled "Death to the West!," accidentally dropping what was supposed to be Kim Jong Il's ashes on the journalist. Cohen claimed that Jong Il's dream was to appear at the red carpet, and this was a funny accident indeed, but the actor later apologized for it.
"No, Thanks!"
Jerry Seinfeld was in the middle of an interview in David Lynch Foundation's A Night of Laughter and Song, a 2017 charity event when Kesha appeared out of nowhere asking for a hug. She presented herself as a huge fan, but unfortunately for her, Seinfeld wasn't positive. He later explained that he felt uncomfortable because he didn't know who she was, and the actor and pop star later discussed the incident and laughed. Nevertheless, Kesha still wants a hug from him, but she never got it! She'll have to wait until next time we guess!
A Land Down Under!
Back in 2014, America Ferrera appeared at the Cannes red carpet for the How to Train Your Dragon 2 premiere. It was then that all hell broke loose, as infamous prankster Vitalii Sediuk ran and put his head under her gown. Apparently, designer dresses don't come with safety measures for such occasions, so he got a good glimpse of everything. He was later removed from the area, but it wasn't his first hit at celebrity events. In 2012, he had also tried to kiss Will Smith, receiving a slap instead!
Excuse Me?
Entertainment Tonight journalist Nancy O'Dell tried to be a bit playful with Taylor Swift on the 2015 Grammys Ceremony, but it backfired tremendously. Commenting on her success, she asked Swift if her award wins made her so successful that she would then return home with a lot of men. O'Dell actually wanted to joke about it, but Swift was left stunned for a second, and then replied that she would return to her cats at home. O'Dell probably needed some disaster recovery advice later. That was, indeed, disastrous.
Chris, Watch Out!
Russell Brand is one of those celebs who has proven that he's not afraid to joke around, or even be a bit provocative from time to time, all for the sake of humor. During the 2010 premiere of the movie The Tempest, Russell sneaked around Chris Colfer and grabbed his chest. Colfer pretended to be terrified, with a look that implied "Help me." However, the young actor is familiar with Brand's pranks and vices, and he wasn't surprised at all. After all, their daring photo together proved to be some good social media marketing.
A Bit Too Cheeky
The Golden Globes Ceremony is an event which brings together several A-listers, all dressed up in posh and expensive outfits. It's an occasion where they get to flaunt their glamorous dresses or tuxedos, but for Sofia Vergara. It wasn't enough. She wanted to show a bit of what was underneath her stunning blue gown. She was seeing partying later at the InStyle afterparty, so maybe, alcohol kind of got the best of her, and she couldn't help it but show the others a bit of her gorgeous body. Well, not too cool Sofia!
A Unique Guest-Star
In 2011, numerous celebrities gathered in Rome to celebrate the premiere of Olivia Newton John's newest film entitled, A Few Best Men. Nobody expected such a weird guest star to show up though. Olivia Newton-John, Stephan Elliott, and Kris Marshall hit the red carpet accompanied by a ram! Yeah, you read that right. Sometimes, stars bring animals with them on the red carpet, but it was the first time that a ram was invited. It didn't look too pleased, to be honest, and hopefully, they brought a vet with them as well!
Jack Black With a Weird Fan
In 2011, Kung Fu Panda's premiere was full of stars. It took place in Sydney, and one of its lead actors, Jack Black, made his appearance at the red carpet. Not alone though. Black was accompanied by a little panda, which seemed to be really fond of him in fact, as it crawled its way behind his feet. Black pretended to be really scared of the sweet animal, and fans started laughing. That was one lucky panda actually. Any animal which has the ability to appear at a red carpet must have a heck of a pet health insurance!
Too Close!
Jennifer Garner appeared at the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars party in a staggering dress which absolutely stole the show. In fact, E! Entertainment declared her one of the best-dressed stars of the event. However, Garner almost had a serious accident, when, walking down the event's red carpet, she lost her balance for a moment. Fortunately, she managed to maintain her stability and she didn't slip. She now must feel thankful for not having fallen, as such incidents are never forgotten by red carpet paparazzi!
Smooch!
Shortly after making his relationship with Katie Holmes public, Tom Cruise appeared at the War Of the Worlds premiere in 2005. There, he found the movie's director, Steven Spielberg. The duo has collaborated many times, thus, they know each other well. But nobody expected that Tom Cruise would approach the legendary director in order to give him a big kiss on the cheek. Well, Spielberg didn't seem to expect it as well, but he laughed, hugging the renowned actor, even if Cruise messed up his hair a bit!
Falling In Style
Fortunately, there are many times when celebrities have some graceful accidents, just like in the case of Helen Mirren. In 2015, she appeared at the Berlin Film Festival, where the premiere of The Woman in Gold took place. As she climbed the stairs, the iconic actress lost her balance and tumbled, but it was a pretty graceful fall. In fact, she didn't let this ruin her night, and she stood up, full of confidence, later laughing at what had just happened. Her long green gown probably was the cause of her tripping.
Way Down We Go
In 2013, Emma Thompson appeared at the Hand and Footprint Ceremony taking place at the TLC Chinese Theater. She was invited in order to be honored, but before her handprints and footprints, things got a little wild. Remember when we said Helen Mirren's tumble was graceful? Well, Thompson's wasn't graceful at all, and we're glad she wasn't rushed to a hospital after falling in such a weird way. She could have seriously injured herself, but luckily, she just suffered some minor scratches.
Those Darn Heels!
Elisabeth Rohm is a beautiful actress known for her role in American Hustle, but in 2014, when she appeared at a QVC red carpet event, fans had the chance to view another, more goofy side of hers. While photographers captured her stunning red designer dress, her high heels proved to be not so comfortable, as one of them twisted, almost letting Rohm fall on all fours, and she struggled not to injure herself. Amazingly, she displayed some pretty impressive agility skills, and she managed not to make a fool of herself, as she stood up, laughing and posing again.
Are You OK, Mr. Pilgrim?
Michael Cera is the awkward geeky actor we all love, but in 2013, he took it a bit too far, in an attempt to increase his "awkward" levels. He appeared at the 2013 Sundance red carpet alongside Magic, Magic co-star Catalina Sandino. When Sandino tried to give Cera a kiss, Cera tried to avoid it, but the only thing he achieved was to hit the floor. Luckily for us (and unluckily for him), there were many professional photographers there who captured his goof.
Not So Invisible, Huh?
The year 2006 might seem like decades ago, but nobody could ever forget Jessica Alba's tumble at the Teen Choice Awards red carpet. The Hollywood star was just a promising actress back then, but her beauty had already captured the hearts of the audience. Alba wore a pair of tight jeans and knee-high boots, and suddenly, she tripped and fell. The Invisible Girl was not so invisible after all, but she handled it with class, laughing at what happened. Maybe if she wore flat shoes, things might have turned out otherwise.
Lawrence's Trademark Activity
Jennifer Lawrence has granted us the most iconic falls in Academy Awards history. Goofs seem to be her trademark activity, as she tripped for the first time in 2013, as she went to the stage to receive her award for Silver Linings Playbook. She then tripped again in 2016, and just when everyone expected that her favorite sport of tripping was over, she almost tumbled again in 2018. Could Jennifer Lawrence be jinxed? Nobody knows actually, but in any case, she should opt for a good injury attorney if she continues that way.
Saying "Sorry" For Letting Him Drown
We all know that Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are very close friends, since the time they filmed The Titanic together. There are always signs of affection each time they appear at the same events, and this time, Winslet decided to kiss Leo's chin at a Golden Globe afterparty. Well, that wasn't so weird, but we can't help but giggle with Elton John's expression over Winslet's kiss. It's as if the English music legend is saying "Hey if alcohol messes up with your mind, you should stop drinking girl!"
Just Too Hungry!
During the 2015 Golden Globes afterparty, Christoph Waltz was snapped murdering a poor hamburger with his teeth! His expression is just amazing though, and you can't tell if he's annoyed or just madly hungry. In any case, Waltz doesn't seem like the guy who's afraid to put some extra calories in his body, especially when he's starving. You can tell though that he absolutely loves burgers, and photographers love taking such photos! Just let the man eat already!
Stop Harassing People, Joan!
It was all magical for Nicole Kidman at the 1997 Academy Awards, until Joan Rivers showed up. In fact, the famous actress had appeared alongside her then-partner Tom Cruise, and all of a sudden, Rivers approached Kidman and started mocking her about her dress. What she actually said was that yellow was a terrible choice, and she wanted explanations about Kidman's clothing option. We don't know if Kidman never heard Rivers or if she just chose to ignore her, but in any case, that was very rude.
Jolie & Her Crazy Stuff
Angelina Jolie was a rising star back in 2000 when she did something that fans never forgot about, and neither did the tabloids. When she appeared at the red carpet, she kissed her guest. Nothing wrong with that, right? Well, the weird thing was that James Haven was her brother, while many people originally believed he was someone whom she had an affair with. Jolie later stated that it wasn't provocative at all, and it was their way of showing how close they are as siblings. Whatever you say, Angelina!
Amy Schumer Strikes Again!
It's typical for reporters to ask you what kind of designer clothes you're wearing at a red carpet occasion, but asking Amy Schumer something like that might give you some surprising answers. During the 2016 Emmy Awards, a journalist asked Schumer for details regarding her outfit. He probably expected to hear Gucci or Armani, but what Schumer said was that she wore an OB Tampon! Well, not your everyday answer. Giuliana Rancic was left stunned, and Schumer showed why so many people love her!
Get Your Facts Straight Sam
When Sam Smith heard that he had just won an Academy Award, he almost burst into tears. During his acceptance speech, he pointed out that he dedicated it to the LGBT community and that he was the first openly gay star to win an Oscar. However, the first openly gay man to become an Oscar winner was Elton John back in 1995, for his song in The Lion King. Smith, you skipped "Hollywood class," right? The young celebrity later stated that he messed up, and apologized for his lack of knowledge.
Excuse Me, Who Are You?
Stacey Dash became known for her performance in Clueless. However, during the 2016 Oscars, Chris Rock introduced her to the audience as the new leading woman behind the black minority outreach program. What happened next was really awkward. Dash began a brief monologue on how she wants to inspire the industry to include more black actors, but she's definitely not an A-lister, and many celebrities didn't even know how to react! Not a good investment for the program probably.
Adele's New Sister, Dazeem
Certain accidents have caused our stomachs to hurt from laughing, like the one John Travolta had in the 2014 Academy Awards. Nobody really knows what went on in his mind, but he somehow mispronounced the name of singer Idina Menzel, calling her Adele Dazeem. We guess Adele has a sister we never knew about! The Grease star, however, said that they talked about it and laughed, and in 2015, Menzel got her revenge, pulling a prank on Travolta and calling him Glom Gazingo! How do they come up with these names anyway?
Some Tissues Please
Not all actors get the chance to win an Academy Award, especially the one for Best Actress, and when they do, some of them collapse. That's exactly what happened to Gwyneth Paltrow in 1999. When she was called on stage to receive her award for her performance in Shakespeare in Love, the actress couldn't believe her ears. She gushed in an emotional shock, and though there were not many tears visible, she was obviously moved. She thanked her parents and her associates for their support, but this was pretty awkward back then!
Straight Outta Solarium
There are certain red carpet moments which define the meaning of awkwardness unless the people involved know how to escape from the situation. Rashida Jones did, thankfully. During the 2015 SAG Awards, TNT's Danielle Demski wanted to pay some compliments about her skin, stating that she looked very tan like she had just returned from the beach. Jones laughed in gawkiness, stating that she was ethnic. She actually talked about her ancestry, being half-black half-Jewish.
An A-Lister's Pros
Selena Gomez attended the Jingle Ball event in LA, back in 2015. Upon stepping on the red carpet, photographers rushed to take pictures of her and her costly clothing, but what happened next was really shocking, and hilarious. The young star (who probably wasn't on a diet back then), held a half-eaten cheeseburger, but as she wanted to pose, she handed it to one of her assistants. Tabloids went crazy over the incident, naming him the "cheeseburger assistant," and the photo instantly went viral.
Ladies, Keep Your Dresses Under Control Please!
Are designer dresses really that dangerous? Apparently, yes! It was time for Naomi Watts to give a speech during the 2015 SAG Awards, and while she headed to the microphone to start, she tripped on Emma Stone's Dior dress! As you can see, Stone was shocked, hoping that Watts wouldn't get hurt, but the experienced actress is an expert on stage. She acted like nothing had happened, and she even laughed a bit about the incident. She then proceeded to accept her award for Birdman.
You Too, Heidi?
During the 2008 Emmy Awards, Heidi Klum headed to the stage, with Dancing With the Stars personality Tom Bergeron. They thought it would be a good idea to do a little dance before speaking, but it went horribly wrong. The supermodel ended up on the floor, and everyone was shocked. Luckily, she only got one bruise on her thigh, which disappeared soon after with a little skin care. They even uploaded a photo with Bergeron, making fun of her bruise! Having a good sense of humor is important.
Hello Mister Red Carpet!
AnnaLynne McCord felt as confident as it could be in 2009 when she appeared at the red carpet of the Teen Vogue party in her expensive designer dress and high heels. Soon after though, things got a bit messy, as the 90210 celebrity tripped on the carpet and fell flat. Luckily, she landed on all fours, without any injuries. Such things happen, and the actress faced her tumble with humor, laughing and getting back on her feet again. Good for you, AnnaLynne!
