The world’s system is tolerant of quite a lot – from character flaws to actions that challenge the legal justice system. There are quite a few things you could get away with – except for being overweight. You certainly can't escape getting noticed for being overweight, especially in Hollywood where a daily workout and a nutritionist on your payroll is a need as basic as trying not to become irrelevant. In an industry where even gaining a few pounds is the equivalent of career disaster, is it any surprise that celebrities seem more than willing to dig deep into their bank accounts rather than being forced into early retirement? Some would even argue that it is expensive, but there’s no such thing as too expensive where your body is concerned – or so we thought.

She dished in an interview with Shape magazine, that she had gone months without a single workout – but fearing her tendency to yo-yo in weight, she decided to hire a personal trainer and nutritionist who instructed her to write down everything she eats. Celebrity nutritionists earn a lot from consulting, so giving good nutrition counsel is a basic expectation.

Unfortunately, the yo-yo dieter is known to experience dramatic changes in her weight. In fact, her most recent ordeal saw the TV host gaining weight after divorcing husband Christian Evans. Now 70, the odds of weight loss aren’t exactly in her favor, however, the actress seems to be making a few strides and losing weight nonetheless. Jonah Hill – Diet & Exercise
Jonah Hill skipped the $23,000 gastric sleeve surgery procedure and dived straight into being a hunk. Lucky for them, new and modern ways to lose weight are aplenty if you have the money for it. Michael Moore was wealthy enough to go to a weight loss spa to shed some pounds. Reportedly, the spa costs no less than $4,500 a week. For some of us this amount of money is way more than what we would spend on vacation but given Michael’s results, it sounds tempting.

Now, he is looking better than ever and totally elegant in his bright-colored suit.

Although he was rumored to undergo a gastric sleeve surgery, he claims his weight loss transformation was all thanks to dieting and exercising.
Jimmy Kimmel - Diet
Jimmy Kimmel, who is a famous TV host, is another name who had a hard time starting his weight loss journey. He didn't opt for strict healthy diets but he rather went on a calorie deprivation and later starved himself to lose some pounds. Although he dropped a lot of weight, we don't recommend this kind of weight loss program since there is a lot of diets out there that would satisfy your appetite and still keep you healthy.
Kelly Osbourne - Diet & Exercise
Only a few people can feel the sting of cyber bullying in the capacity that Kelly Osbourne did, and her weight, as well as her erratic behavior, didn’t help matters much. Tired of the mockery, Kelly began to take specific measures towards achieving a healthier weight. In the wake of a seizure, a Lyme disease diagnosis, and appearing on Dancing With the Stars, the TV host decided to engage in a lot more exercise and pay closer attention to her nutrition. And although she isn’t known for having one particular nutritionist or personal trainer, she managed to record a weight loss of up to 70 pounds.
Drew Carey – Diet & Exercise
Until being diagnosed with Type 2 diagnosis, Drew Carey described his weight as ‘funny’ – but the diagnosis didn’t leave the award winning comedian laughing, or anyone else for that matter. While he could easily afford it, Carey passed on gastric bypass or a gastric sleeve surgery and threw himself into exercise and nutrition. Today, he is making people laugh without the bulge to back him up.
Fergie - Low-Calorie Diet
No one would have thought that Fergie would pack on the pounds as quickly as she did. But as soon as the frontwoman of the alternative hip-hop group, Black-Eyed Peas had a ‘bun in the oven,’ the 42-year-old needed a few more calories to keep up her strength and weight gain was inevitable. Determined to get back to her pre-baby body, the singer adopted a 1,200-calorie diet crafted by Carrie Wiatt and managed to record a weight loss of 20 pounds in a few short months. To keep future weight gain in check, Fergie maintains a 1,600 calorie diet plan and a daily exercise routine that keeps cellulite away. If she also manages to stay clear of her past crystal meth addiction, and consequent rehab – we daresay that her athletic frame would be around a long time.
Kelly Price - Eating Right & Workouts
Kelly Price gives some of the credit for her weight loss to the least likely person – God. But considering her fitness journey began at a critical weight of 300 pounds, perhaps the singer did get some supernatural intervention. Price is just as popular for her incredible singing voice as she is for her yo-yo weight. As soon as she started paying some attention to nutrition and exercise, however, she got an instant facelift – and it turned out, all she needed to curb her food addiction was a little bit of clean eating to retrain her palate. Fans think that she seemed to have lost her lack of self-esteem while losing weight, and we agree.
JOJO - 500-Calorie-Per-Day Diet
Being a teenage pop star had its perks no doubt, but JoJo could argue that they came at a steep price. At only 17, the rising star was attached to a recording company with such high expectations that the singer was placed on the contentious HCG diet that only permitted a measly 500 calories per day and a slew of hormone injections which was purportedly aimed at curbing possible weight gain. Fearing she was battling drug addiction, her mother was forced to intervene only to find out that the size 4 17-year-old was in fact gunning for more weight loss. An older and more assertive JoJo now insists that being curvy isn’t such a bad idea after all.
Joell Ortiz - Diet & Workout
If Joell Ortiz had known the tremendous impact weight loss would have had on his life and overall lifestyle, we bet the rapper would have begun his fitness journey sooner. In 2014, Oritz incorporated a workout routine and diet plan into his daily schedule, which saw him drop 50 pounds in only a few months. Losing weight proved to be the final part of the rapper's grass to grace story – in the end, the once overweight no-name rapper from a neighborhood full of drugs and addicts became a world-renowned rapper with a smoldering bod to boot.
Styles P - Fruits & Low-Carb Diet
Rapper and founder of D-Block Records, David Styles (also known as Styles P) wasn’t always as athletically built as he currently is, but his transition began when he started to pay some mind to his nutrition and fitness. Styles overhauled his diet to lower his carbohydrate and overall calorie intake and upped the ante with fruit and vegetables - instantly improving his metabolism and hastening weight loss. And considering the rapper already set himself apart as an artist with no vices and doesn’t promote the use of drugs, the weight loss set him on an even higher pedestal.
David Banner - Low-Calorie Diet & Workout
After growing up eating a variety of comfort foods, David Banner developed a mild addiction for the ‘unhealthy’ and it was only a matter of time until he ballooned to 200+ pounds and became diagnosed with sleep apnea and high blood pressure. Thankfully, the southern-born rapper didn’t take being overweight lying down. Armed with a low-calorie diet, a fitness routine that demanded four to five days a week of some rigorous diet, and an unrelenting will to succeed, Banner went from not to hot in little or no time.
The Veronicas - Diet Plan
While their recent online feud seems to have taken over headlines, the Origliasso sisters Jessica and Lisa were once two peas in a pod whose biggest concern was losing weight. Despite being at an appropriate weight at 20-years old, the girls adopted controversial weight loss procedures to lose weight, but rather than broaden their followership, it led to endless speculations about the girls' possible drug addiction and potential trips to the drug rehab. The musicians have, thankfully, bounced back from their unhealthy weight.
Teairra Mari - Limiting Food Choices
It wasn’t until improving the quality of her nutrition and curbing her alcohol abuse that Teairra Mari realized that she had been shortchanging herself. The reality star battled with a placid alcohol addiction which combined with her poor diet, made her a walking time bomb. She began losing weight soon after adopting a workout routine and diet program that proved to be one part alcohol rehab and two parts lifestyle overhaul. Today, she is a slimmer and gorgeous version of her former self.
Sasha Pieterse – Dancing With The Stars
Pretty Little Liars veteran Sasha Pieterse experienced the nightmare of most teenage and young adult women – weight gain. Unfortunately, Pieterse could hardly manage her weight gain since it was spurred on by her Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome diagnosis. Halfway through Dancing with the Stars, however, the actress managed to shed 37 lbs of the 70 lbs she gained over the period of two years since her diagnosis. On the plus side, she has managed to make this progress with minimum influence from drugs and chemical stimulants. It turns out that all she needed was a little diet change and a reason to kick up her heels.
Kathleen Turner– Restricted Diet
Katheleen Turner is a long way off from what she used to look like at the beginning of her career 30 years ago, but the actress has no interest in returning to her former frame. However, following her diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, Turner started seeking non-chemical, drug-free methods to improve her lifestyle, and weight loss made the cut. Alongside limiting her alcohol intake (which curbs the likelihood of alcohol abuse), the actress also adopted a cleaner diet and a routine of mild exercise. Interestingly, she has been recently recorded to say that she would like to fall in love. Well, losing weight can sure set your confidence to ‘high.'
Ashley Johnston – The Biggest Loser
At nearly 500 pounds, Ashley Johnston was a walking cesspool of weight gain related diseases, and choosing to join The Biggest Loser was merely a Hail Mary pass for the overweight woman. Following the strict demands of the nutritionist and fitness trainer of the reality show, Johnston managed to begin losing weight until she had dropped an impressive 183 pounds over the course of 18 weeks - which culminated to more 40% of her initial body weight. Alongside coming in second place in the entire season, the process seems to have nipped her food addiction in the bud. And if she manages to stay off a few exigencies like sugar and alcohol, she should be enjoying her body for a while.
Jack Black– Diet & Exercise
Like most comical actors, Jack Black’s career success has very little to do with his physical features – and his smoldering brown eyes have always provided sufficient distraction from his overall frame. Following the dramatic weight loss transformation of Kyle Gass, who starred as his Tenacious D bandmate, the actor became keen on losing weight and smoothening out his own edges. While a few news outlets suggest that Black’s fitness journey is aided by some weight loss drugs, the actor insists otherwise, stating that he adopted a low-calorie diet of mostly raisins and high-intensity workouts that feature a variety of exercises. Well, good for him.
John Bradley-West– Unknown
Very few actors are as fortunate to get a career break as soon as Bradley-West did, but it came with its own burdens; like a Game of Thrones fan asking the star why he wasn’t losing weight despite the grueling requirements of the movie series. Despite defending his size and putting the fat-shamers in their rightful place, Bradley-West has been observed to be gliding down the scale with small pockets of weight loss since beginning the series and is now an estimated 30 pounds lighter than he was. Keep this up and he might be in the running for our affection along with onscreen heartthrob Jon Snow.
Kevin James – High Protein Meals & Mixed Martial Arts
Kevin James is an actor with a personality almost as large as his frame. But after snagging the role of a teacher in Here Comes the Boom, he adopted a high protein diet and high-intensity fitness routine that left him in his overall best shape. After dropping 85 lbs in preparation for the movie, James didn’t have much luck keeping the weight off and gained it all back after completing the movie. Although he is a decent 40 pound lighter currently, the actor is a long way off from his chiseled onscreen frame. But considering it could be worse – and could have been battling drug abuse and shuttling in and out of drug rehab rather than just battling food addiction, his weight gain doesn’t seem so bad after all.
John Daly– Diet
While a few people might argue against the safety of his chosen diet, John Daly brags that it has yielded such astounding results that his nutrition preferences are well worth the risk. The pro golfer has known to experience fluctuations in weight gain and weight loss, until being faced with college golf where he was then asked to lose weight in order to proceed. Daly was said to have adopted an unusual alcohol and popcorn diet that led to an impressive (but unsafe) weight loss of 67 pounds in less than three months. And while we have to admit that this is an impressive feat, a looming alcohol addiction and a possible trip to alcohol rehab should deter any sensible person.
Rikishi– Calorie Counting & Cardio
Before announcing that he had joined the popular workout chain, Planet Fitness, Rikishi was a 425-pound man who made giant strides in WWE and did very little of anything else. The wrestling champ addressed his weight gain by incorporating routine cardio and low-calorie meals into his lifestyle. So far, he has managed to drop a decent 125 pounds on his diet and fitness routine and seems like he's gunning for even more progress. Provided his career isn’t ruined by drug addiction or multiple rehab visits, the weight loss might mean bigger things for his career.
Bruce Vilanch – Lap Band Surgery
Bruce Vilanch’s best shot at a decent weight was always weight loss surgery, but even that seemed to fail after gaining most of the weight he lost from Celebrity Fit Club which he admits was the result of a mild food addiction he picked up while on the set of the musical, Hairspray. Now 68 years old, the comedian is keen on keeping his weight only slightly above 200 pounds with the help of the lap-band surgery he had. Vilanch may have lost 100 pounds post-procedure, but we can only hope he keeps it off. After all, weight loss surgery costs far too much to be repeated multiple times.
Debra DiGiovanni – Diet
All Debra DiGiovanni needed to be spurred on to embark on her fitness journey was a doctor’s report. The nearly 300-pound comedian insists that she isn’t the least bit in a hurry to suit status quo but is taking a few proactive measures to become slimmer since she is at risk of obesity-related conditions. With a diet that simply consists of smaller portions than she is used to, DiGiovanni of original Italian descent is 30 pounds lighter and strutting her stuff on the big stage.
Sharon Rooney – Cardio
Unlike a few others on this list, Sharon Rooney didn’t record tremendous amounts of weight loss and insists that she has always looked the same – so, it has never been an issue. That notwithstanding, the My Mad Fat Diary star is a few pounds lighter than she used to be while filming the series, and sources say it is because the actress incorporated some light cardio into her daily schedule, and began cutting out on takeout food. Surprisingly, she has managed to keep both drug addiction and alcohol addiction at bay, and for a plus size actress her age that is certainly a feat worth commending.
Margo Martindale – Undisclosed
Following her Emmy nomination, Margo Martindale surprised adoring fans by announcing that she would be going on a diet. In the months prior to her appearance at the Emmy Awards and nomination for the award, the actress seemed to ignore the weight gain, insisting that she was confident in her own skin. But surprisingly, she began losing weight following the aforementioned announcement and is a decent 20 pounds lighter than she used to be. The transformation may be the result of cutting back on alcohol or carbohydrate, but the actress hasn’t disclosed how she managed the weight loss.
Aidy Bryant – Exercise
After being cast on SNL, Aiden Bryant was determined to make her mark without losing weight or looking like every other member of the cast. Eventually, however, the actress and comedian had to figure out a way to resolve her dilemma that would also help her improve her health. What began as a light exercise and minor diet changes soon translated into a 15-pound weight loss, that accentuated her curves and put a curb on her Real Housewives addiction. Two birds, one stone – certainly doesn’t get any better than that.
George Wendt
After an incredible run in the 11-season ‘90s series Cheers, most people probably expected George Wendt to develop an alcohol addiction and end up in alcohol and drug rehab, but things took an unexpected turn. The actor seemed to begin battling a food addiction that saw him balloon to a critical 330 pounds. Thankfully, he managed to tackle the rapid weight gain with a few diet changes and workout routines with which he dropped a whopping 75 pounds. And while he may still want to make a few additional changes, everyone agrees that the actor has slimmed down quite well.
Eric Stonestreet – Exercise
Eric Stonestreet’s biggest weight loss breakthrough began when he incorporated some light jogging into his exercise routine. He states that while playing drums (somewhat) aggressively burns some fat, it surely doesn’t do enough for him to rely on. After turning 40, Stonestreet set out to lose some weight and in a short amount of time was down by 35 pounds which he eventually added an additional 30 pounds to, in the following months. He sure looks like a bag of money these days.
Elle King – Cutting out Alcohol
When she debuted her weight loss in the reality TV series Say Yes To The Dress, viewers were quite stunned. It turned out that in preparation for her wedding, the singer decided to begin losing weight so as to fit into the perfect dress for her big day. By the spring of 2017, Elle King had practically curbed her mild alcohol addiction by cutting out Red Bull and Vodka which were integral parts of her everyday diet. At that time, she lost between 10-20 pounds, which is no mean feat considering the crazy lifestyle of TV stars...
Amber Portwood – Diet, Exercise & Surgery
Amber Portwood’s weight loss transformation was the result of tremendous amounts of efforts on the part of the reality star. Between the diet changes that she started making in 2015, the routine exercise, and fitness guidance, she was guaranteed to begin losing weight even before her surgery attempts. Portwood eventually made a remarkable transition from her initial 171 pounds to a decent 135 pounds on account of her diet and exercise. Now, with the surgery smoothing things out, Portwood looks nothing like she used to.
Ashley Fink – Diet & Exercise
On the set of Glee, Ashley Fink was easily the one of the heaviest, weighing approximately 300 pounds and a quite prone to obesity-related diseases. Since ending the show, Fink seems to have taken a keen interest in losing weight, and following her current diet and exercise routine, has dropped a decent 80 pounds. She credits her weight loss to her low-calorie diet and high-intensity cardio, as well as her unrelenting determination to succeed rather than turn to addiction as is the case for most overweight, bullied people her age.
Hillary Scott – Diet & Exercise
Most people who suffered a similar tragedy to Lady Antebellum may have turned to drugs or alcohol to find solace and probably ended up in rehab. But the award-winning Hilary Scott clearly had other ideas. Following her 2015 miscarriage, the singer adopted a diet plan and exercise regimen that saw her drop the baby weight she gained while pregnant and then some. Today, she is a gorgeous 135-pound beauty and smolders everytime she walks onto the red carpet like the weight loss success story that she is.
Meghan Trainor – Diet & Exercise
Since debuting with her track nearly four years ago, Meghan Trainor has been on the fast track to success with no chance of stopping – and there have been a few changes along the way. The songstress who was once described as a ‘fat whale’ is anything but these days after embarking on a fitness and diet program with her boyfriend with whom she is currently engaged to be married. The singer may have been All about that Bass at one time, but Trainor is a long way off from ‘bass’ if you ask us.
Queen Latifah – Diet & Exercise
Even though Queen Latifah has been forthright about her love for curves and by extension, her body, the Joyful Noise star embarked on a weight loss journey that saw her losing about 10% of her body weight. But while we can agree that her kickboxing trainer and weekly subscription to Jenny Craig might be attempts at getting healthy, we doubt that it's the same for the $12,000 procedure she undertook to have her breasts reduced. Granted, she admits it was during a wave of depression – but the surgery and exercise-induced weight loss blend in so nicely that we have to wonder if it wasn’t all planned out at the onset.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi – Diet & Exercise
Reality TV star Snooki was well known for her reality TV show and a rounded figure, which was less characteristic of her party girl persona. It was only after having her first child that she decided to embark on a weight loss regimen that saw her drop 40 pounds – surprisingly without going under the knife. You would think that a girl with plastic surgery history like her would simply take liposuction over exercise and nutrition, but Snooki proved otherwise. And her choice turned out to be a smarter one in the long term; not to mention easy on her bank account.
John Goodman – Diet & Exercise
Being considered the ‘fat funny man’ of Hollywood came at a dire cost. But John Goodman was suddenly not having any of it any longer. He swung into action after he realized that the title was interfering with his well-being. With a personal trainer and well-balanced diet, he lost a whopping 100 pounds. The good thing was that his choice of weight loss saved him some money (by not having a gastric bypass or sleeve surgery), but the hitch seems to be that things slowed down on his end since the weight loss.

Seth Rogen was also considered a funny fat guy not too long ago. All of that changed after he was cast as the leading man in NBC’s The Green Hornet and he needed to morph into a superhero ASAP. He took a rather drastic step of hiring a personal trainer and following a strict diet regimen that saw him lose 30 pounds in only ten days. Now, he looks like a lot of things, but ‘funny-fat-guy’ isn’t one of them.

Rap demi-god and producer Dr. Dre is looking just better than average these days. At 52, you would expect his body to be taking a downward toll – but it is quite the opposite. Somehow, he has also convinced his brother, Warren G, to adopt his fitness and nutrition regimen, on whose account his doctor refers to him as a 31-year-old. And it was an offer his brother could hardly resist.

It is unclear why ‘Turtle’ decided to join the Flab to Fab train, but The Entourage fans were glad to watch Jerry Ferrara and his character on the show make a healthy transformation right on the screen. Fat-guy comedians are the life and bane of Hollywood sit-coms, and Zach Galifianakis was no different. These days, he’s barely recognizable in a brand new body that is anything like the fat suit he carted around for years. The comedian admits that his transformation came at a small cost – he gave up alcohol and sweet treats and signed up for an advanced weight loss training program that saw Galifianakis shape up to become quite the hunk.
Alec Baldwin – Diet & Exercise
Most dramatic of all the weight loss stories is perhaps that of actor Alec Baldwin, who only dropped his sugar and lost 30 pounds as a result. That seems like a much better plan for those who cannot afford thousands of dollars in gastric sleeve surgery or gastric bypass. It didn’t come without a minor health scare, however, but not everyone has to wait till they are pre-diabetic to drop the sugar and incorporate moderate exercise into their daily routine.

While weight loss is often considered a step in the right direction for most stars, 50 Cent's dramatic weight loss stirred up some concerns and left a few tongues wagging. Thankfully, the rapper dropped the unhealthy amount of weight only for his role in the Things Fall Apart movie, where he was cast as a cancer-stricken football player.
