The world is quite prejudiced and filled with criticisms, especially if you are successful in your field and have a lot of money. That is why it can be very hard for celebs to actually be who they are when they are constantly under the spotlight. It's no wonder that some of them protect their privacy as much as they can and never reveal their loved ones' names. Well, some have found the courage to be open about who they are and we applaud them. Because of that, we have come up with a list of celebs who have publicly come out as gay in celebrity news - our LGBT stars!

Kevin Spacey

Actor, singer, and producer Kevin Spacey gained fame for his many roles, most notably on American Beauty which got him an Academy Award. He starred in Swimming with Sharks, L.A. Confidential, Seven, and more. The House of Cards star received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Underwood.  Lately, his reputation has been tarnished due to indecent assault allegations made by several names, which is why he was removed from the last season of the popular series. We hope his estimated $100-million net worth won't get affected.

Neil Patrick Harris

The amazing Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother is amazing in real life as well. This multi-talented actor is also a comedian, writer, producer, singer, and a magician. How great is that?! And while in the show, he cannot settle for one person, in real life, he definitely did. He married David Burtka and the couple also became parents to twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace via surrogacy in 2010. Besides the popular sitcom, Harris is known for Starship Troopers, Beastly, The Smurfs, and The Smurfs 2, etc.

Jodie Foster

In her fruitful career, Jodie Foster has received two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, three BAFTAs to name some, so there's no point in repeating what a terrific actress she is. After a minor setback, the fifty-something actress starred in several movies such as Panic Room, which turned out to be a huge hit, and Inside Man, among others. She later focused on directing and directed episodes of House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. She's living with  Alexandra Hedison since their wedding in 2014.

Charlie Carver

Charlie is best known as one of the Scavo twins from Desperate Housewives while his brother portrayed the role of Preston, the other twin. Charlie is also famous for his portrayal of Ethan on Teen Wolf and The Leftovers. Carver, who came out as gay two years ago, appeared in the miniseries When We Rise, which focused on the LGBTQ rights movement. Charlie attained his degree from the University of Southern California in 2012.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson

Portraying the role of the charming Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family earned him five Emmy Award nominations. Before this popular show, Jesse also starred in The Class and Untraceable. Together with his husband Justin Mikita, the philanthropist started a non-profit charity called Tie The Knot in an effort to support marriage equality. The organization is focused on selling bow ties designed by the two as well as other designers. The couple launched this idea at the same time when they announced their engagement. They married in 2013.

Colton Haynes

His starring role in Teen Wolf catapulted him to stardom but he is also known for appearing in Arrow as Roy Harper. Model, actor, and singer Colton Haynes started modeling at the age of 15. He had several guest roles before appearing in the television series, Privileged. Haynes apparently struggled with anxiety for many years and he came out as gay in 2016. He was briefly married to florist Jeff Leatham but the couple separated after six months of marriage.

Lance Bass

This multi-talented guy rose to stardom as a part of the popular teen band N’SYNC. Singer, author, dancer, actor, and a producer, Lance Bass also went through several months of cosmonaut training and was certified by NASA and the Russian Space Program. He planned to join a space mission but unfortunately, his plans didn't work out. He started dating Michael Tuchin and by 2013, the couple was engaged. The wedding ceremony was held in December 2014. 

Cynthia Nixon

We love her portrayal of the sarcastic Miranda Hobbes in S** and the City. The actress-activist Cynthia Nixon was also a gubernatorial candidate in the state of New York for 2018. Cynthia is also famous for her roles in A Quiet Passion and Amadeus. She supports marriage equality and is an advocate of public education as well as women's health. Nixon gave birth to two children while dating Danny Mozes but the couple broke up in 2003. She soon met her future wife, Christine Marioni. Nixon is a breast cancer survivor.

Tim Cook

Chief Executive Officer of Apple Inc., Timothy Donald Cook, is a business executive who also serves on the board of Nike, Inc. He graduated from university in 1982 and worked for 12 years at IBM before joining Apple. He started as Senior Vice President and was later promoted to Chief Executive Office when Steve Jobs resigned. Tim has accumulated a fortune over the years and he frequently donates money to political campaigns.

Sara Gilbert

You probably know her best as Darlene Conner from Roseanne, a role which brought her two Primetime Emmy nominations. In 2018, she reprised her most famous role in a nine-episode series as well as in The Conners. Sara Gilbert also appeared in The Big Bang Theory as the scientist Leslie Winkle who dates Leonard for a while. She and Johnny Galecki actually dated in real life too before she publicly came out as gay. She is now married to Linda Perry and together they are parents to son Emilio.

Tom Ford

Before he launched his own luxury brand in 2006, Tom Ford worked at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. The fashion designer, director, producer, and screenwriter Tom Ford launched his production company in 2005 and made his debut as a director with A Single Man, an Academy Award-nominated movie. Ford has been dating journalist Richard Buckley since 1986. The couple eventually got married and now they have a son together, Alexander John.

Wanda Sykes

Wanda Sykes was a writer on The Chris Rock Show which got her a Primetime Emmy Award in 1999. The actress, comedian, and writer also appeared in The New Adventures of Old Christine and she has had several notable movie roles, too. Named one of the 25 funniest people in America by Entertainment Weekly, Wanda is also an author who published a book entitled Yeah, I Said It. Sykes came out as gay in 2006 and married Alex Niedbalski with whom she has two children.

Michael Kors

Michael David Kors (born as Karl Anderson Jr.), worked at the French house Celine until 2003. He then founded his company Michael Kors Holdings Limited and started opening retail stores in 2006. He started designing when he was a child and selling clothes from his parents' basement. The successful designer has accumulated a large fortune since then and his designs are worn by many celebs, including Michelle Obama. Kors married Lance Le Pepe in 2011 and they are still together.

Jillian Michaels

She is a TV personality, an author, and a personal trainer who you've probably seen on the reality series, The Biggest Loser. Her own series entitled Just Jillian premiered on E! in January 2016. She wrote several books on health and fitness. Michaels and her ex-fiancée Heidi Rhoades have two children together. They adopted their daughter from Haiti at about the same time when Heidi gave birth to a son in 2012. They split earlier this year.

Anderson Cooper

Author, journalist, and television personality Anderson Cooper is famous for hosting the television news show Anderson Cooper 360°. The fifty-something host is also known for his daytime talk show Anderson Live from 2011 to 2013. In 2007, he signed a deal with CNN and doubled his annual earnings from a reported $2 million to $4 million. Cooper and his long-time partner Benjamin Maisani have reportedly split up in March 2018.

Lily Tomlin

The 78-year old Lily Tomlin has been a singer, actress, comedian, writer, and producer since the '60s. After joining the cast of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, she rose to stardom and was later cast in her first film in 1974. Lily met her long-time partner Jane Wagner in 1971 and after over four decades together, the couple finally had a private wedding ceremony in 2013. They also collaborated on many projects like Tomlin's comedy record album And That's The Truth and the film, An Apology to Elephants.

Melissa Etheridge

Singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge released her debut album in 1988 and it was an instant success. She won her first Grammy in 1993 for her single Ain't It Heavy. She went on to reach the top 30 with hits from her album Yes I Am.  Now in her late 50s, the singer and activist struggled with breast cancer in 2004 and underwent treatment. After she recovered, she proudly returned to the stage despite not having any hair from chemotherapy. She married her partner, Linda Wallem, in May 2014.

Ellen Page

Famous for her role in Juno, the Canadian actress received several nominations for the part, including an Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Ellen Page also starred in 2005's  Hard Candy and she portrayed Kitty Pryde in the X-Men film series. The 31-year old actress is a vegan and publicly came out as gay in 2014. In January 2018, Ellen married dancer Emma Portner in a secret wedding.

RuPaul

The 57-year old actor, model, singer, and television personality RuPaul is famous for hosting RuPaul's Drag Race since 2009. This show brought him two Primetime Emmy Awards and he became one of the most influential people in the world according to Time 100. RuPaul also released 14 studio albums and appeared in several movies. The author of two books, RuPaul has been dating the Georges LeBar since 1994. The couple tied the knot in 2017.

Cheyenne Jackson

His first leading role on Broadway was in All Shook Up and he went on to land many other roles.   Singer, actor, and songwriter Cheyenne Jackson starred in the anthology series American Horror Story in four seasons. He has released three albums so far and he also performs in cabarets. The gorgeous actor started dating physicist Monte Lapka in 2000 and they got married in 2011. However, they filed for divorce in 2013. He then married Jason Landau in 2014 and the two welcomed twins in 2016.

Robin Roberts

You probably recognize this television broadcaster from Good Morning America. In 2012, she was the recipient of the Peabody Award. Robin Roberts underwent chemotherapy treatment in 2008 after being diagnosed with cancer. In 2005, she started dating Amber Laign, a massage therapist and this was the first time she came out as gay. Many years later, the two are still together. Roberts also authored several books in from 2008 to 2014. 

Chely Wright

Her first big hit was the 1995 Shut Up and Drive followed by her number one single, Single White Female. Chely Wright has written songs for other artists and she has published her memoir entitled Like Me in 2010.  Even though she has had several relationships with women since before, it was only in 2007 that she openly admitted to being gay. Chely announced her engagement to Lauren Blitzer in 2011 and they got married the same year. She gave birth to twins George Samuel and Everett Joseph in 2013.

Nate Berkus

Interior designer Nate Berkus appeared frequently on The Oprah Winfrey Show before he became the host of The Nate Berkus Show in 2010 where he discussed designs and provided personal advice. The show was canceled in 2012 but he also runs the Nate Berkus Associates, his interior design firm. Nate married another interior designer, Jeremiah Brent in 2014 and they have a daughter named Poppy and a son, Oskar Michael.

David Hyde Pierce

Frasier's Dr. Niels Crane is well known to us and this role brought David Hyde Pierce four Primetime Emmy Awards. David is an actor, comedian, and director who also appeared on When We Rise as Dr. Jones. Pierce is not only a successful actor but he has also campaigned for expanding funds for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Pierce is married to his long-time partner Brian Hargrove since 2004. They may not have a child but the two seem very happy together.

Ryan Murphy

Nip/Tuck, Glee, American Horror Story, American Crime Story...these are just some of the titles that Ryan Murphy is famous for. The screenwriter, director, and producer also directed the movie adaptation of Eat, Pray, Love. He first worked as a journalist before Spielberg bought a script he wrote in the late '90s. Ryan and David Miller have been married since 2012. The happy couple welcomed two sons via surrogacy, Logan Phineas, and Ford.

Tig Notaro

Famous for her deadpan comedy, Tig Notaro is a successful stand-up comic, actress, and writer. She has several acclaimed albums and was nominated for both Grammy and Primetime Emmy Awards. Notaro was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and underwent treatment which included a double mastectomy She addressed her health issues during one of her live shows which many praised at the time. She is married to Stephanie Allynne since 2015.

Alan Cumming

His name has appeared everywhere: in television shows, plays, and films. Allan Cumming is a Scottish-American actor, singer, writer, and producer who appeared in many notable projects. From movies, you probably remember him from Spy Kids and Son of the Mask. This talented guy has also written a book entitled Not My Father's Son: A Memoir. The actor has reportedly maintained a vegan lifestyle since 2012. He lives with Grant Shaffer and their two dogs.

Matt Dallas

You probably remember Mat Dallas from the science fiction television series, Kyle XY. The 35-year old played the title characters in the series until it was canceled in 2009. He also starred as Jake in Anne & Jake in 2015 as well as in the drama film Alaska Is a Drag in 2017. The actor and his long-time partner Blue Hamilton got married in 2015 and got a son through adoption that same year.

Brittney Griner

The 2012 AP Player of the Year, Brittney Griner, is a professional basketball player. She used to play college basketball at Baylor University before she started playing for Phoenix Mercury and UMMC Ekaterinburg. The WNBA star wrote a memoir in 2014 entitled In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court. She was briefly married to another basketball player Glory Johnson but the two got a divorce in 2016.

Rosie O'Donnell

She hosted The Rosie O'Donnell Show from 1996-2002 and during that period, the show garnered several Emmy Awards. The famous actress, comedian, author, and television personality, Rosie is also a celebrity blogger. For her memoir Find Me, she received $3 million in advance which she used to establish a foundation called For All Kids. Since her heart attack in 2012, Rosie has been paying more attention to nutrition and embracing a plant-based diet. She is also a foster and adoptive mother. 

Ellen DeGeneres

One of the most famous TV hosts of our time, Ellen DeGeneres has won 30 Emmy Awards and a number of other awards, including 20 People's Choice Awards. Apart from hosting The Ellen DeGeneres Show since 2003, Ellen has also launched her own production company as well as a record company. Ellen wrote four books as well and launched a lifestyle brand. The famous host tied the knot with her partner Portia de Rossi in 2008.  Her 2017 earnings were estimated at $77 million.

Chris Colfer

Chris Colfer rose to stardom, thanks to his role as Kurt Hummel on Glee which received critical acclaim. In fact, Colfer received three consecutive People's Choice Awards in 2013, 2014, and 2015. The singer and author has written, produced, and starred in his film entitled Struck by Lighting. He is also a philanthropist, raising awareness of the importance of adopting shelter animals. Colfer has also donated books to HP Alliance and encouraged fans to contribute to it as well.

Barry Manilow

Not many artists can boast a career spanning over 50 years like the legendary musician, Barry Manilow. Over the years, Barry has recorded 47 top-40 singles and sold more than 80 million records. The 75-year old singer still performs and released My Dream Duets in 2015. which brought him a Grammy Award nomination in his career. After his divorce from his high school sweetheart Susan Deixler, Manilow pursued his career in music. In 1978, he started dating Garry Kief and married him in 2014 in a private ceremony.
