We're pretty sure that, during your lives, you have read or heard about several love stories that moved you and made you wish you had such a romantic life. Matt Grodsky and Laura Scheel first saw each other when they attended the same preschool and it wasn't long before they became best friends. College and later duties put a distance between them, but their bond was so strong that it would be impossible for them to disappear from each others' lives. We bet that this story is one you haven't even seen in romantic films. Not even the best dating sites could have brought two people close this way!

Back in 1997...

Back in the '90s, there were two kids in Phoenix, Arizona, who would later become internet sensations with the relationship they established. Back when the internet was not even a possibility and dating sites were something that never crossed people's minds, Matt Grodsky met Laura Scheel at pre-school when he saw her at the school's playground one day. The chemistry between them seemed to be immediate and they instantly became best friends, playing together all day long. Luckily, their parents and teachers never became an obstacle to the close bond they formed as children. And decades later, they would be amazed over what would eventually happen.

A Mermaid And Her Prince

Laura originally believed that Matt was a bit weird, as he would always be around her in the playground. But as her curiosity about him grew, they eventually got to know each other. That's when she realized that their feelings were mutual. Since that day, they had been inseparable and there wasn't a single thing that they wouldn't do together. They even pretended to have an affair as children, having numerous play dates, as they later revealed. Here, they're pictured having fun in someone's pool. It's funny how Laura looks at the camera, while Matt just can't take his eyes off of her!

Wherever You Go, I Go

Everyone was startled at how Matt and Laura would do everything together. But their parents didn't think their kids' relationship was bad, though. In every field trip, they would pick each other for their partner. From the public library to trips to local sights, Laura and Matt were expected to be each other's partner. They would usually go to the cinema together (along with their parents, of course). And when a scary scene popped up, they would hold hands. Their relationship grew day by day and they had become the school's most famous friends, though nobody imagined what would happen later.

Trying To Impress Her

They were just kids, but Matt already wanted to impress Laura in any way possible. Kids often unconsciously try to flirt with each other and Matt's best shot was using catchphrases from famous Disney animated films—with the Lion King being his favorite. On the other hand, Laura had more creative ways of showing Matt she liked him and she would often teach him how to draw and how to dance. Apparently, he wasn't that good in what we call "girly" things but his goofiness never seized to impress her. Matt then stunned his teachers with a very kind gesture at an age when he barely had any hair and teeth!

Wowing His Teachers

Matt and Laura were the pre-school's most renowned friends. Their friendship was a subject their teachers usually discussed as they believed it was very sweet. The kids around them knew that they were the best of friends, but it seemed that Matt had different plans. One day, Matt stood in front of the whole classroom and announced that he would eventually marry Laura when he grew up. He has said this is one of the earliest memories he has. As expected, everyone laughed, including the teachers, as they often come across kids' romances. He didn't have a ring with him, though. Maybe that's why they didn't take his words seriously!

Pre-School Lovebirds

As we mentioned before, Matt and Laura's schoolmates thought Matt's announcement was rather funny, but that didn't discourage them from being attached to one another for the rest of preschool. They continued having the same habits and doing the same things. Everybody talked about their special bond and how they seemed to be perfect for one another, even if they still were too young. Education, though, has to be one of the children's top priorities. And when pre-school ended, their relationship would face a challenge it had never faced before.

Kindergarten Time!

Pre-school was over. And Matt and Laura were worried if they would end up in the same kindergarten. It was something they really wanted as, at that point, they couldn't imagine themselves without their best friend. Their parents really wanted them to stay together. But in the end, it was impossible for Matt and Laura to attend the same kindergarten. To be honest, it's a relief they didn't fall into depression after finding out they wouldn't share the same classroom in the following years! How did they react to that unexpected turn of events, though?

Keepin' It Alive

While young kids tend to make new friendships rather easily, often forgetting about past friends, Matt and Laura kept seeing each other even after being sent to different kindergartens. Despite being in different schools, "cheating" on their best friend never crossed their minds and they still met to play and go to the movies as they did before so frequently. As the early 2000s came closer, they started meeting less and less until it was time for them to make the next big step and go to elementary school. It was going to be the biggest test they had ever faced until then.

Things Were Getting Harder

Kindergarten was over and, for the first time, Matt and Laura didn't know if they were going to see each other again. Elementary school was just around the corner. And no matter how much they didn't want to become strangers, nobody knew what would happen then as they stood before a very important step in their lives.  It's not like they went to college. But during elementary school, your priorities are much different and free time is limited. Matt and his longtime best friend, Laura, now had to find other ways to communicate. But would they eventually make it?

Staying In Touch

Despite the fact that Matt and Laura went to different elementary schools, they tried to stay in touch. And since their families were friends as well, they used to send Christmas cards to one another every year during the festive season. It was a nice way of seeing each other, at least in photographs, and it kinda had a romantic essence as it kept the spark between them alive and left them dreaming about the day they would meet again. However, as years passed, cards mattered less and less and everything pointed out that Christmas gifts were not enough to keep them as close as they used to be.

A Loving Memory

Matt Grodsky and Laura Scheel were about to finish elementary school. And now, it was time to think about their dreams and hopes during high school. Going to high school is something very important for every child, as it marks the start of their teenage years and slowly towards adulthood. They even think about the possibility of buying a house of their own, as they gradually head towards becoming college students. These new challenges slowly alienated Matt and Laura who, unfortunately, ended up as simply a sweet memory to each other's head. It's something they never wanted and it surely saddened them deeply.

Matt and Laura had then lost touch entirely and Laura had made new friends at her high school. Something truly unexpected happened when Laura sat with a friend of hers one day, though. As she scrolled through her friend's phone contacts, she found the name "Matt Grodsky" in them. When she made sure that they talked about the same person, Laura asked her friend how she knew Matt. Laura's friend replied that they attended the same middle school. Matt's beloved friend would have never imagined that such a coincidence would ever happen. Would Laura use technology in her favor and meet Matt again?

Getting Prepared

Laura Scheel now had the opportunity to meet her oldest friend once more. However, she had been quite skeptical about it, as many years had passed and she didn't know what reaction to expect from Matt. It was her first year as a high school student and she told her friend that she leaned towards not calling him. It was then that Laura's friend acted like the best speed dating service in the world and took the initiative to contact Matt and give him Laura's number. As it was expected, she informed Laura about it. And now, the only thing that Laura had to do was to wait. 

Surprised

Laura wasn't sure if Matt would want to meet her again. But shortly after her friend gave Matt her number, she received a text from him saying he wanted to meet up. So they arranged to go to the movies again, just like they did as kids. Laura didn't expect Matt to be so happy to see her after almost a decade. But amazingly, they felt like they just picked up where they left off. They hadn't lost a bit of chemistry between them and they were ready to be best friends once more. Laura wouldn't trade all the money in the world for what they had together.

More Than Friends

Matt and Laura were not children anymore and it was more than obvious that their friendship slowly turned to something different. Just two weeks after their reunion, they had started dating and their love turned to something very beautiful. It seemed that they were perfect for each other and their mutual past connected them in a unique way. They definitely looked like a couple who would never require any couples treatment. But things would soon become even harder for the two of them. And this time, they had to hold on to each other very tight in order not to vanish again.

They Had To Make A Decision

Matt and Laura became best friends during pre-school. And even if they lost each other during kindergarten and elementary school, they managed to meet again during high school and even become a couple. Withal, they were pretty worried about their next destination: university. They didn't know what to expect. And this time, the distance between them would be far bigger while they would have to dedicate much more time to their studies. They were very hesitant and didn't have a solution at the time. But they had to make a decision ASAP.

Keeping The Flame Alive

After deciding to pursue higher education, Laura Scheel went to Northern Arizona University while Matt attended Columbia College in Chicago. They were separated by more than 1,600 miles, but the lovely pair eventually decided to stay together and fight for their love. They already knew how living apart felt like and they thought that they could win the battle against distance once more. This time, they spent a lot of hours on social media using video calls and chatting while both of them often stayed at each others' campuses. It didn't look so bad in the end.

Two Freshmen In Love

According to what Matt and Laura claimed, their first year in college passed pretty smoothly. The fact that they both tried to spend time with each other, even in front of their computer monitors, helped them stay together. Even if at one time, they had to spend almost 6 months apart! At the same time, they both knew how special they were to each other and it didn't take them long to realize that they were soulmates. Matt started thinking of a way to surprise Laura and to make their relationship even more special. She never saw it coming.

Senior Year On The Way!

As we mentioned previously, both Laura and Matt managed to stay satisfied with their romance during their junior year as students as they found ways to close the gap between them. Junior year was over and they slowly headed towards their senior year. But Matt wanted to do something to impress Laura (just as he did as a boy) and mark their first year together. He thought of ways of bringing past memories to her mind. And what better way to let your significant other know that you love her than by injecting some nostalgia on a romantic date? Perfect plans don't always require draining savings accounts!

Just Like Old Times

Matt loves surprising Laura. But for their 1-year anniversary, he wanted to prepare something really special and unique. Suddenly, he remembered where they met and under which circumstances, so he had the bright idea of preparing a picnic for her at their pre-school. Matt claimed that he wanted to organize something relaxing and placid, as they had gone through a very tough year as students and being a freshman is never easy. So, he convinced Laura to come with him to their old pre-school to take a break from their exhausting classes and enjoy some quality time with him.

Not What She Expected

In Laura's mind, this was just a small excursion to their old preschool where they would have a calm picnic and share some time off from college. However, as they went there, Matt seemed really stressed and he didn't talk much through the whole process. She started wondering what was about to really go down at that special playground, but she still couldn't realize why Matt was so anxious. When they arrived there, she didn't find any food or picnic equipment. Instead, what Matt did next left her dumbfounded and she would have never guessed it.

Put A Ring On It

Laura seemed distressed. Seeing no picnic equipment, she wondered if this was all some kind of misunderstanding or if Matt eventually planned something else. However, when they reached the preschool's playground, she came across a wonderful surprise. Matt got down on one knee, pulled out a ring from his pocket and proposed to her.  Apparently, it was a no-brainer for Laura, who instantly accepted. But talking about it lately, she claimed that she never saw it coming and she felt overwhelmed by how quickly things happened. Once again, Matt told her how much he loved her and the whole story now seemed like a fairy tale!

Having Thought Of Everything

Laura couldn't understand how Matt had managed to keep everything a secret and under control. But the way that he planned it was masterful. While he proposed to her on May 23, 2015, he had already asked her dad for his blessing two months ago and had also purchased an engagement ring. Moreover, Matt asked his brother to stay hidden while they were at the playground in order to film the whole event so they could later see it and remember this amazing moment. Amazingly, Matt borrowed a picnic basket his own father once used to ask his mother the same question.

Keeping His Word

There was a reason Matt chose this particular place to propose to Laura. In case you didn't remember, it was at this playground 20 years ago that Matt had stood in front of the whole classroom and announced that he and Laura would become husband and wife one day. While everybody laughed at him back then, it was now obvious that Matt is a man of his word and he didn't plan on breaking his promise. The combination of nostalgia and sweetness led Laura to say "yes" instantly. And now, all the couple had to do was to prepare their magical wedding.

A Dream Come True

Did you ever expect that these two would eventually tie the knot? We certainly didn't. But on December 30, 2016, Matt and Laura fulfilled their preschool dream and became man and wife. Their nuptials took place at the Arizona Historical Society. And when Matt heard the priest saying, "you may kiss the bride", he was ecstatic. Another sweet and nostalgic detail was the tune they chose to dance to. It was Can You Feel the Love Tonight by Elton John which was featured in the Lion King, an animated film from which Matt once used lines to impress Laura.

More To Come

You may think that now that Matt and Laura got married, our story is over. Withal, this was not the end for them. It was just the beginning of their wonderful life. The wedding registry was completed by Matt's uncle who claimed that most kids only think about playing, having fun, and eating candy during preschool. For Matt and Laura, preschool was like an omen for their everlasting life together. Nobody could have imagined that a boy would find his soulmate while still being a toddler, but Matt did. And he definitely feels blessed about it, just like Laura.

Let's Celebrate!

While the ceremony itself was illustrious, the wedding party was even better. Just as Matt and Laura stated, they had time to celebrate with people close to them who knew them since they were kids and knew the whole story behind their relationship—how they met, how they grew up, and how they ended up tying the knot. They enjoyed dancing with their loved ones and relatives and they wanted the people they loved the most to be with them during this very special moment of theirs. They wouldn't have done it without them.

Ready For the Trip Of Their Lives!

With the nuptials over, Matt and Laura still couldn't believe how far they'd gone together. After relaxing and resting a bit, they started planning their honeymoon. Their romantic trip kicked off just after they got married and they spent several days in Maui, enjoying their love and free time, of course. However, Laura knew that their story was more than ordinary and she definitely couldn't keep it to herself. She wanted the world to know how she and her husband, Matt, fell in love and eventually started a home together.

Letting Everybody Know

Laura knew her story was too special to not become popular and she wanted to let the world know about her and Matt. Matt, as always, did something that really pleased her. He uploaded their story on The Way We Met, an Instagram account where people share their incredible love stories—stories that family counseling specialists are not fans of! Matt shared their whole background on the picture's description, describing how they met, how they separated for a while, and how they eventually ended up back together. He stated that he hasn't stopped being in love with Laura since he first saw her.

People Starting To Notice

Matt and Laura's story sure seems like something that happens once in a blue moon, but you'll probably be surprised. As soon as Matt's post was uploaded, people started noticing his story. It wasn't long before their post gained more than 30,000 likes and hundreds of comments, with several people narrating their story of how they met someone special without ever requiring couples therapy, despite all these years as couples, due to their love being too strong to let anything get between them. Matt and his beloved wife started feeling that there were many people experiencing the joy of what they had together and this just made them incredibly happy.

Achieving Fame

Matt and Laura took some time off as they focused on their home remodeling. And for a period of time, their post didn't get any more attention. That was until the renowned actor and rapper Tyrese Gibson read their story and was fascinated by the way they met and how they ended up forming their own family. Even more, Gibson offered them a magical three-day trip to Miami! The couple couldn't believe their eyes when they first received his message. And after accepting his gift, they thanked him for his kind gesture.

From A Simple Couple To Instagram Celebs

Soon enough, and especially after Tyrese Gibson gave them a huge boost of fame and attention, Laura and Matt's story was all over the internet. Even sites like HuffPost interviewed them and shared specific insight and details on their life and how they ended up getting married. And as they said, they received messages of love almost every day. Laura, on the other hand, couldn't believe that her face and her preschool pictures were all over Instagram and their life was being featured right next to the hottest celebrity news! But what are they up to now?

The Future Belongs To Them

Matt and Laura feel blessed for what they've achieved together and they long to keep living a happy and prosperous life. Currently, Matt makes money by working as a screenwriter and an account executive at a digital marketing company while Laura likes to help children and families in need through working for a charitable, non-profit organization. While they don't have any kids yet, they claimed that it's on their "to-do" list. For the time being, they're enjoying their life together alongside their beloved pooch, Kirby, while at the same time finalizing the last details on their new house.
