The original Captain Kirk, William Shatner, somehow defined the role for anyone else following. But of course, those who have followed have made their own marks. The Star Trek franchise has raked in earnings of billions of dollars over the years. Watching it from either the 1966 or the 2017 version will get you hooked on the characters. Benedict Cumberbatch (Kahn) & Sophie Hunter
Benedict Cumberbatch's role in Star Trek is a little dark. His character is named Kahn, a superhuman who exists thanks to genetic testing and genetic engineering and is determined to destroy the Klingon Empire. He was Captain Kirk’s arch nemesis in Star Trek Into the Darkness. Cumberbatch married his partner and friend, theater and opera director Sophie Hunter, in 2015. The couple met while she was a student at Oxford.
Jolene Blalock (T’Pol) & Michael Rapino
The role of T’Pol, a Vulcan science officer in Star Trek: Enterprise, was played by Jolene Blalock. T’Pol was the first Vulcan who served on a human Federation ship for a very long time. She's also a model who has been featured in magazines like Playboy and Maxim. Her husband, Michael Rapino, is the CEO of global entertainment company Live Nation. A fun fact about their relationship is that she was the one who proposed! They got married in Jamaica and now have three sons.
Leonard Nimoy (Spock) & Susan Bay
Leonard Nimoy holds the distinction of being the first person to portray the half-Vulcan, half-human Spock on the original Star Trek series. Spock was the first officer of the USS Enterprise, then later the commanding officer. Leonard wed the actress Susan Bay in 1989. He confessed that since he played Spock for so long, he felt more like the character than himself (not to the point of raising mental health concerns though). Nimoy, who was nominated for 4 Emmy Awards for this role, died in 2015, leaving behind 2 children and a loving wife.
William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk) & Elizabeth Shatner
He was the original Captain James "Jim" T. Kirk, and possibly the most famous and most decorated captain in the history of the Star Trek franchise. Canadian actor William Shatner, who is a bonafide Trekkie, has authored numerous books about his experiences acting as Captain Kirk. He's also created a series of science fiction novels called TekWar. They've been adapted into a TV series. In 2001, he decided to share his life in marriage with horse trainer Elizabeth Joyce Anderson.
Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher) & John Cleveland Talbot
Gates played the role of Beverly Crusher in Star Trek: The New Generation. Beverly was a doctor and the chief medical officer of the USS Enterprise-D. Gates also starred in the four succeeding Star Trek films and attends Star Trek conventions. She has also starred in several other television series and films. Gates' husband is contractor John Cleveland Talbot. Together, they have one son named James who was born in 1991. She was actually pregnant with him during the filming of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Lab coats concealed the baby bump from the cameras.
Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard) & Sunny Ozell
Patrick Stewart has played a very famous Star Trek: The Next Generation character—Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise-D, USS Stargazer, and the USS Enterprise-E. Additionally, his character has interacted with more than 27 species of aliens while working for the Federation. Our favorite bald-headed actor has other famous roles including the ones in the X-Men series, Hamlet, and American Dad! He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2010 and has two sons with his first wife, Sheila Falconer. His current wife, Sunny Ozell, is a singer-songwriter. They wed in 2013 and are living in Brooklyn.
Kenneth Mitchell (Kol) & Susan May Pratt
Kenneth Mitchell's transformation to Kol, a Klingon from the House of Kor, was so complete, you'd never guess it was him under all the makeup and prosthetics. The 43-year-old spent hours in makeup, using the time to practice the Klingon language. His character's family are on the Klingon High Council, the target of his power-hungry trip on Star Trek: Discovery. Kenneth married fellow actress, Susan May Pratt, and they have two children together.
Chris Hemsworth (George Kirk) & Elsa Pataky
Australian actor Chris Hemsworth's character, human Starfleet officer George Kirk, was credited as the one who inspired his son, James T. Kirk, to join the academy. In real life, Chris began dating Elsa Pataky at the start of 2010. They had their wedding in December of that same year. Elsa, a Spanish film actress, producer, and a model is multilingual, speaking seven languages. She appeared in Snakes on a Plane and became part of The Fast and the Furious franchise. Chris is also known for playing the role of Thor in the MCU.
Bruce Greenwood (Christopher Pike) & Susan Devlin
Sixty-one-year-old Canadian actor Bruce Greenwood plays Pike, the second captain of the USS Enterprise who works for the United Federation of Planets. His character was present in several Star Trek series, but Bruce added his own uniqueness to it in the franchise's 2009 movie. He has also expanded his acting portfolio, having starred in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Thirteen Days. He also had a lead role in the Star Trek reboot series playing the same character. Bruce lives in Los Angeles together with his wife, Susan Devlin. They have been married since 1985.
Zoe Saldana (Uhura) & Marco Perego-Saldana
Nyota Uhura is a main character on the 2009 film version of Star Trek. She's a communications officer and translator on the USS Enterprise. Saldana played Uhura in Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. Other movies that she starred in that had big box office earnings were Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy films, and Avengers: Infinity War. Her husband is an Italian artist named Marco Perego. They both took each other's last name and have three children together, including twins.
Simon Pegg (Scotty) & Maureen McCann
Scotty was the chief engineer working on the USS Enterprise with Captain James Kirk. He was the first person to transport two persons from two different places at exactly the same time. Simon Pegg portrayed Scotty for all three of the Star Trek movie reboots. Additionally, he co-wrote Star Trek Beyond. Pegg tends to both write and act in his productions, such as Paul. He also appeared in Mission: Impossible III and other Mission Impossible movies. Simon is married to music industry publicist Maureen McCann. They are parents to one child.
Winona Ryder (Amanda Grayson) & Scott Mackinlay Hahn
Winona Ryder's character, Amanda Grayson, was Spock's human mother. Spock is half Vulcan, half human. Amanda, a human teacher on earth, met Sarek, the Vulcan Ambassador to Earth. She is an iconic actress who has appeared in many famous films and TV series including Bram Stoker's Dracula, Beetle Juice, and Stranger Things. Her new movie, Destination Wedding, is set to be released in August this year. The gorgeous actress was at one point engaged to actor Johnny Depp but has been with her husband, Scott Mackinlay Hahn, since 2011.
Nazneen Contractor (Rima Harewood) & Carlo Rota
Canadian-Indian actress Nazneen Contractor plays Rima Harewood in 2013's Star Trek: Into Darkness. Her character was married to Thomas, a Starfleet Officer. With their terminally-ill child in a hospital, Thomas makes a deal with a stranger. His life is sacrificed but his child recovers to the amazement of the doctor. Nazneen is famous for portraying the roles of Layla on The Border and Kayla on 24. Nanzeen met her husband, actor Carlo Rota, on the set of 24. They have one son together.
LeVar Burton (Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge) & Stephanie Cozart Burton
Geordi La Forge, a visor-wearing human, was a Starfleet officer who began on USS Enterprise-D as a junior lieutenant and worked his way up the ranks to become the lieutenant commander and chief engineer. Geordi was one of the main characters on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The character is played by LeVar Burton, who is most famous for starring on the kids' show Reading Rainbow and the '77 miniseries Roots. His wife is Stephanie Cozart-Burton, a makeup artist in California. They have two children together.
Marina Sirtis (Commander Deanna Troi) & Michael Lamper
The "Commander Deanna Troi" persona was depicted by the beautiful and talented Marina Sirtis on Star Trek: The Next Generation. She is half Betazoid and half human and is able to sense people's emotions. She was assigned to USS Enterprise-D and married William Riker, first officer onboard the Enterprise. In real life, Marina is also married. In 1992, she married Michael Lamper, a singer and rock guitarist with an amazing hairstyle. Lamper was also an actor on Star Trek: The Next Generation for one episode in 1989.
Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) & Christophe Émé
Jeri Ryan artfully plays a very interesting character on Voyager—Seven of Nine. She's a freed Borg drone, removed from that species collective consciousness. After Jeri Ryan was cast in her role during the 4th season of Star Trek, the show's ratings jumped 60 percent! Jeri has also acted on other shows such as Boston Public, Bosch, and Shark. In 2003, Jeri met chef Christophe Émé at a charity chef’s event. In 2007, they got married in France. One year later, their baby daughter, Gisele Émé, was born.
Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) & Lyle Trachtenberg
Actress/comedienne/TV host Whoopi Goldberg was one of the stars of Star Trek: The Next Generation. She played Guinan the bartender on the USS Enterprise-D. Guinan was from the El-Aurian race who are known to be good listeners. Hence, she made the perfect advice-dishing bartender. Goldberg is historically the second black American to win an Oscar. Whoopi has been married and divorced three times. Marriage counseling probably wasn't enough to keep her relationship with ex-husbands Alvin Martin, David Claessen, and Lyle Trachtenberg alive.
Stephen Hawking (Stephen Hawking) & Elaine Mason
Stephen Hawking played himself on one episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He played a retired Starfleet scientist who had the position of Lucasian Chair. In reality, Stephen Hawking was the University of Cambridge's director of research for the Theoretical Cosmology center. The renowned scientist has won many awards for his theory research on cosmology. He had ALS disease, was twice divorced, and had three children. Unfortunately, he died on March 14, 2018.
James Frain (Sarek) & Marta Cunningham
James Frain played Sarek, the Vulcan ambassador in the Federation Council on Earth, in 2017's Star Trek Discovery. On Earth, he met human teacher Amanda Grayson and made her his bride. Their only child was a son, Spock. The 49-year-old English actor had a lead role on several hit movies and television shows like The White Queen, Orphan Black, Hilary and Jackie, The Tudors, Armadillo, and Elizabeth. Frain married his love, Hollywood director Marta Cunningham, in 2004. The couple has two children together.
Karl Urban (Bones) & Katee Sackhoff
The part of Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy was played by Karl Urban in two Star Trek movie reboots. The chief medical officer for the USS Enterprise, Bones worked with Captain James Kirk who was his classmate from the Starfleet Academy. He's also starred in Xena: Warrior Princess and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He was previously married to his makeup artist, Natalie. Their relationship didn't work out, so they had a divorce in 2014. They have two sons together. Later that year, Karl met his current partner, actress Katee Sackhoff.
Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher) & Anne Prince
Wil Wheaton played the brilliant Ensign Wesley Crusher in Star Wars: The Next Generation. Wesley is the teen son of Lieutenant Commander Jack Crusher and Doctor Beverly Crusher. Wesley, inspired by his parents' example, also attended the Starfleet Academy and became a junior lieutenant. Wil Wheaton has since been cast in Leverage, The Big Bang Theory, and Eureka. Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker) & Genie Francis
Jonathan Frakes' part on Star Trek: The Next Generation and subsequent Star Trek movies was Commander William T. Riker. Riker was the first officer under Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise-D and of the Enterprise-E. It was on the set of Bare Essence though, that Jonathan Frakes met his wife, actress Genie Francis. Sparks flew and the duo started dating in 1985. He then gave her an engagement ring one year later. They were wed in 1988 and have two children together.
Ashley Judd (Robin Lefler) & Dario Franchitti
The Mission Specialist of the USS Enterprise-D, Robin Lefler, was played by Ashley Judd. When the ship needed to prepare for battle against the Tamarians, Robin was assigned to the Chief Engineer, Geordi La Forge. Apart from being a famous actress, Judd is also women's rights advocate. She has had lead roles in several movies such as Norma Jean & Marilyn, Divergent, and Double Jeopardy. Judd became engaged in 1999 to Scottish race car driver Dario Franchitti. They got married in 2001 but divorced in 2013.
Eric Bana (Nero) & Rebecca Gleeson
Australian actor Eric Bana played the villain, Nero, in the 2009 Star Trek movie. When Nero traveled back to the past, his actions created an alternate reality. Eric has also starred in other notable movies such as The Time Traveler’s Wife, Hulk, and Troy. He was on the TV series Full Frontal when he met Rebecca Gleeson, a network publicist. He proposed in the US and ensured that the honeymoon was very romantic. Now, they live with their two children in Melbourne.
Chris Pine (Captain James T. Kirk) & Annabelle Wallis
Chris Pine played Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek movie reboots. Originally portrayed by William Shatner, Chris' performance as the iconic character was also excellent. John Cho (Sulu) & Kerri Higuchi
John Cho plays the part of Hikaru Sulu excellently in the 2009 Star Trek movie reboot. The character was originally played by George Takei in the original Star Trek series. Cho also took on the role in the sequels, Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. On a personal level, he married actress Kerri Higuchi in 2006. Rachel Nichols (Gaila) & Michael Kershaw
Gaila was the Orion cadet in 2009's Star Trek who spent some quality time with Kirk. It's commendable that she found a suitable lipstick to go with the green makeup. The role of Gaila was effortlessly played by the beautiful and talented Rachel Nichols. She has found mainstream success with another sci-fi action film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Nichols married film producer, Scott Stuber, in 2008. However, just seven months later, they separated citing irreconcilable differences. Clifton Collins Jr. (Ayel) & Francesca Eastwood
In the hit show Star Trek, Clifton Collins Jr. plays Ayel. He is Nero's right-hand Romulan henchman. The Romulans are the alien race that is threatening the crew of the Starship Enterprise.
